Mushroom Growing at Home for Beginners

November 12 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm UTC+1

| £25

Fungi have to be some of the most fascinating organisms on our planet, and many of them are also delicious! Growing fungi at home is a simple and rewarding task, and we’ll show you how best to do it without lots of expensive equipment.

In this three-hour workshop, we’ll give you all the skills, tips and tricks that you need to get growing your own gourmet and medicinal fungi. Starting out with busting through the terminology and getting to know what fungi are, we’ll then look at ways of sourcing or creating your own mushroom spawn. From this we’ll show you how to make ‘cakes’ to grow them on, and then how to make a simple growing chamber to fruit them in!

You will go home with a ready to inoculate cake and a liquid culture syringe to get you started.

Fungi have been cultivated in other parts of the world for thousands of years, and their powerful medicinal and nutritional values have long been revered. Bring this amazing local food technology right into your own home and become part of the growing fungi community!

This is the first part of a sequence of courses that will cover many aspects of fungi cultivation. More to be announced soon!

This course includes:
– What are fungi?
– What do fungi need to grow?
– What is spawn, and where can I get it?
– Working with spawn
– How to make Brown Rice Flour Cakes (and sawdust cakes)
– Incubation
– How to make a fruiting chamber
– Mushroom aftercare
