Incredible Edible Bristol’s How To Grow course

October 2 @ 10:00 am - November 6 @ 12:00 pm UTC+1

How To Grow-6 weeks of learning to grow food and beauty.

About this event

This is our 6 week course, How To Grow. Based on organic and ecological principles, this course is for anyone wanting to learn to grow food and ornamentals, and supports the participants by teaching the building blocks of growing. Starting with soil, we will look at no dig methods, how to keep your soil healthy and why soil is so important, and move onto seeds and sowing, propagation techniques, composting, working with nature and very basic design principles. Whether a beginner or just wanting to learn more about how our gardens can support our wider environment, this course is for you!

The course is taught by our founder, horticulturalist Sara Venn, who’s passion for growing and plants has seen her in a 25 year career in both growing food and ornamentals.

This course has 2 sponsored spaces for people of BAME heritage, sponsored by our friends at Yeo Valley. Edible Bristol is deeply concerned that horticulture and gardening, both as hobbies and professions, are very much seen as focusing on one demographic and we are determined to open that space up to all. After all, as a city with 91 languages and multiple food cultures we should be celebrating all of that food and what better way than creating places where growing is as multi cultural as the city we live in. If you are interested in one of these free places please just let us know at sara@ediblebristol.org.uk.

Each Saturday we will focus on a different building block, with emphasis on practical, hands on learning at the Edible Bristol Cultivation Place at Speedwell Allotments. The course will begin at 10am and run till 1pm each Saturday. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions
