Winners of the Observer Food Monthly’s ‘Best Cheap Eats’ award 2010, and Radio 4’s Food and Farming ‘Best takeaway’; co-owner Sid Sharma also walked away with Bristol City Council’s inaugural local food award.
The menus are seasonal, sustainable and very simple. There is a choice between two Thalis – balanced plates of 5 different dishes. Depending on which of their restaurants you’re dining in, the choice might be between vegan and vegetarian thalis, or between fish and vegan/vegetarian. Due to popular request, some meat is now sneaking on to the menu with the Mogul Chicken Thali.
The Thali Café have also done away with the disposables in takeaways, with the use of Tiffin tins – insulated stainless steel lunch boxes, which they fill with 3 curries and rice for takeaway customers.
The wine list is also short, and entirely European, and there are local drinks from Westons and Bath Ales.
